School - 684 kids

Sally, Thursday

So here we are already to day 4.  Time is flying by.

Berrie, Ed, Elgin and I have had a great time teaching together.  Having a Translator - imperative!!  We also have Claudia in our room in the mornings.. She is the one who wants to start a preschool - she is a very gifted teacher - she is so wonderful in the classroom!!

We have had enough to do although I can't say that everything has gone as planned!  Guess that's to be expected.

The kids are so adorable and so responsive and cooperative.  They have been taught good school behaviors.  Like they are used to just sitting in their seats.  We are probably messing up their teachers as we have them doing lots of out of their seat activities- they might even be learning a little English in the process!

For example we are using lots of music to teach.  I have a wonderful CD that has songs in both Spanish and English/ we play a song once in Spanish so they get the idea - and then English.  We begin the classes with a hello friend song.  We have taught colors and farm animals with a color/farm song - fives monkeys and an alligator - both songs can be acted out which has been fun and you all will learn a song called "tutti ta" when we return:-). We have taken our tutti ta song to another classroom!  Fun!  I think I will be hearing these songs in my head for a long time!

Sally doing "Toody ta".

For any of you who have been to Flores de Villa before - the school rooms are so improved - gone are the flapping tin roofs - the missing windows.  Slowly but surely things are improving in this under resourced community - God has brought together a wonderful group of faithful committed to Flores de Villa people who are definitely making a difference.

Morning classes are from 9:30-11:30 - then lunch different places - often back at our hotel.  Then back on the bus at two for a 45 minute bus ride back for the 3:30-5:30 class.  I am finding my energy level for the afternoon classes - is less than for the morning.  (One distraction we don't have - electronic devises:-).

While we hope they will learn some English, the main purpose is to immerse the kids in God's love for them.  It is a gift to partner with God in this endeavor!
