Easing of anxiety
This is Berrie and Ed writing about our first visit to the ministry of Peruvian Partners in Flores de Villa, Peru. The area of Lima where we are staying is more economically robust than we had expected. Flores de Villa was also more developed than we had anticipated.
The English language school is very well attended. Berrie and I are helping Elgin and Sally with one of the youngest age groups- ages 6 & 7. The children are quite responsive and eager to learn.
On Tuesday Elgin and I left Berrie and Sally on their own so that we could visit the retreat center where the mens weekend will take place. We had many questions about the logistics and setup for the weekend. The driver that took us to Ceneguilla Retreat Center was John. He is the John who came to Minnesota for heart surgery a few years ago. He was very helpful with his translation App on his phone. When we finally found the location of the retreat center the only person around was a gardener. He did't have a clue that we were going to be coming. So, that made for an interesting visit! We were able to get a feel for the meeting room, sleeping rooms, eating areas, etc. There are still many questions, not the least of which is FOOD! We want to have a special meal for the men on Sat. night. God will be in charge of that. When it gets right down He is in charge of it all anyway.
Elgin and I returned to the San Juan house for lunch and time with the young men who live there. Each of the young men shared their testimonies. It was a very moving experience to hear how God has reached each of these men and changed their hearts.
Berrie and I had a special visit in the afternoon with Claudia and her sister and mother. She is the person that Gina wanted Berrie and I to meet because she will be starting the Preschool for the village. We learned that many children are left alone and locked in their homes while their mothers go to work all day. It is heartbreaking to think of these 2, 3, 4, and 5 year olds locked alone in their homes when they could be attending a preschool. Claudia will be a great teacher. She showed us many of the learning supplies that she has made for the classroom. The biggest problem is finding a space that they can use for a preschool center. The space they plan to use in the beginning is a small room connected to the medical clinic. They will need to secure a permanent space that they can get a lease to own or rent. We need much prayer for this. Berrie and I want to do what we can to help make this school happen because the need is so great. Please pray for God to help guide our efforts.
